Family Business UK’s Annual Conference for 2025

Date: 09/04/2025
Author: Megan Josland
Company: Family Business

Taking place in Manchester on the 5th to 6th June 2025*, the Conference will focus on how family businesses can harness values and principles to help create and sustain competitive advantage.

The purpose and values of a family business, like the ingredients in an old family recipe, are inherited; passed from the kitchen table to the boardroom table over generations.

Reinterpreted by successive generations, these essential ingredients determine the culture of each family business and are what helps give each one it’s unique flavour and characteristics.

But how well do you make the most of those precious ingredients, and use them to create a competitive advantage and a leading position in the market?

*Welcome Reception on the evening of 4th June included in your registration fee.

About our programme

The Annual Conference programme includes inspirational keynote addresses from Sir John Timpson CBE and Ross & Jonathan Warburton, as well as political speakers from across The House. Combined with workshop streams, the conference is uniquely focussed on providing practical skills for you to take back to your day-to-day operations and ownership.

Keynote Speakers

Sir John Timpson CBE of Timpson will give us a unique perspective on his sense of responsibility, as a successful family business, which drives the implementation of purpose as a business; why it is important, how it sets the business apart from others and how family businesses can embed their values into the operational running of the business.

Ross and Jonathan Warburton of Warburtons will speak about how their values are fundamental to the way they work, guiding the business in their long-term success. Hear their experience of practical ways to communicate values to customers, new-joiners, next generation and suppliers.

Workshops

All with a key family business lens, led by real family businesses, the workshops seek to help you utilize the family business attributes for competitive advantage – whether this is through recruiting, onboarding, communicating with

board/family/stakeholders, reporting, sustainability, tax, and new innovative technologies.

Our annual conference is conducted under Chatham House Rule, encouraging open sharing of experiences and advice both during workshops and informal networking. The conference has a strict rule of non-solicitation.

“So many inspirational business minds, all in one room willing to share their experiences, best practice and ideas. That’s pretty valuable and certainly why I keep attending.” Joe Oughtred, Wiliam Jackson Food Group

“New insights. Alternative perspectives. Great contacts and terrific combination of informal and formal sessions through which to meet others in our ‘same boat’.” Nick Burrows, Notcutts

“Thoroughly enjoyed my first time attendance at the Family Business UK conference and dinner. I went with three expectations for the event, all of them well and truly met:

  1. some breathing space from the daily grind to listen, absorb and reflect
  2. expand my network and meet some inspiring and brilliant people
  3. take back to the business insight that we can turn into actions

I’ll be back in 2025! And I’ll be bringing some more of the John Good Group team with me.” Adam Walsh, John Good Group
