
Plans for the first phase of The Northern Gateway, which would see 20,000 jobs created as part of the Atom Valley Mayoral Development Zone, have been submitted for approval. The site, which is on the Bury and Rochdale border, has the potential to become the largest employment space in the region and will target advanced manufacturing, industrial and logistics sectors.
The University of Manchester has been ranked the fourth highest academic institution in the UK for the total number of spinout companies generated. Between 2011 and January of this year, there were 114 spinout companies.

Marketing Stockport reports that the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, has called on government to back plans for a new Northern Arc of investment in cities in the North and that nine Greater Manchester Colleges, including Trafford and Stockport College Group, have been awarded £2.5 million in additional funding following the success of their Innovation Programme pilot.
