Sharon Seville, Stockport Vice-President of Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, has visited the House of Commons in the capacity of Non-Executive Director of the REC (Recruitment & Employment Confederation), which is a 100-year-old membership organisation that supports professional recruitment and employment standards across the UK. The purpose of the visit was to discuss the UK jobs market and how it works for businesses and workers.
Sharon said: "We've been quite honest in terms of our belief that we think there is a lot to do to bring the real experiences of firms and their workers into view as the Government prepares the biggest changes we have seen in a generation.
"We've been working closely with central government in light of both ONS data challenges and proposed changes to employment legislation and are of the firm opinion that there can be no success to a pro-growth plan without open and honest dialogue between Government and businesses.
"We met with Justin Madders MP for DBT and Rt Hon Liam Payne MP (Shadow Secretary of State Kevin Hollindrake MP was supposed to attend but there was a last-minute meeting called so he couldn't be there). We shared our aggregated labour market data to demonstrate how it can be used at constituency level along with the capacity, capability and understanding we have as an organisation of the current landscape for both businesses and individuals.
"It was very informative and our CEO Neil Carberry has attended several meetings with senior ministers to discuss proposed changes and advocate for a sensible approach to change."
